Healthy Diet Tip #3: How to Choose the RIGHT Beverage

Image

Hey hey hey! It’s been more than a week (I swear) since I last did my Healthy Diet Tip post (oops). Maybe not. It just feels like a really long time. Anyways. This week’s Healthy Diet Tip is about….. Drinks (if you couldn’t see that from the title, lol). Anyways, lets jump into it.

We know that the lovely H2O (water) is the best for us and the recommended intake is 8 cups of water a day (thats about 2 litres or maybe half a gallon, I really don’t know) and we all know how good it is for our skin, and for weight loss and just for better health.

BUT we all know even more how difficult it is to just drink water in the modern say with so many distractions like the SODA/SOFT DRINK/FIZZY DRINK and juices and sport drinks and… I could just go on naming them for the longest time but I won’t because that’s not the main point of this post.

Now I’m not going to be one of those people who just preach the “never drink anything but water” because a) that would be extremely hypocritical and b) totally impractical. Honestly speaking, I don’t think I know one person who can actually do that.

So here we come to the main part of our little post.

The RIGHT Kind Of Beverage

  • To spice up water (if you find it boring, like me): add some lemon pieces, I know it may sound uber cliched but honestly it makes it that little bit better. If you still can’t bring yourself to love it than add some honey. I know what you’re thinking, “but honey is a type of sugar” and it is true that sugar, no matter what sugar, is the same but honey brings that nice taste into your water and will be MILES better than drinking other types of soft drink, juices and other drinks on the market, trust me.
  • Tea. Tea. Tea. Tea. I cannot emphasize ENOUGH how amazing tea is. It is the perfect beverage. You can have it hot or cold (home made iced tea is just divine). Plain tea is so so good for you. Have a cup of green tea AFTER dinner (and lunch if you want) and it has the best detoxing effect. It will help flush out the oils that you have on you digestive tracts. Tea is the wonder drug people, it really is.
  • Homemade coffee: the ones in coffee shops may have too much sugar in them but you could choose to get the expresso or something that contains no syrup.
  • If it wasn’t obvious enough in my first Healthy Diet Tip post, I like my home made smoothies. They’re ridiculously healthy and yummy. Go for that!
  • And finally, a good beverage choice would be vegetable juice and coconut water. They’re very light and you can keep up the vegetable servings with the vegie juice.

The Beverages to AVOID

  • Carrying on with the juice theme from the end of that last section, juice (especially bottled juice) is something to avoid. There is more sugar in those bottle juices than soft drinks like Coke!!!!! You can see why you’d want to avoid that. In addition, although the recommended dietary intake for fruit is 3 servings a day, a bottle of juice usually has A LOT more than that meaning that you’re exceeding the natural sugar intake that you should be having.
  • Avoid “diet” and “zero” sodas. I know because it has the word “diet” or “zero” plastered across it, people are automatically drawn to it. But don’t be fooled. The chemicals they have in them are not good for you at all. Some companies use chemicals to get rid of the sugar that was in the mixture form the original formular and then add more chemicals to make up for the lack of nice taste in the soda after the anti-sugar agents in it.
  • Normal sodas (or soft drinks) as a whole should be avoided along with sports drinks and energy drinks (ick!).
  • Alcohol! We all know that alcohol is not very good for your liver at all, but not many people know that it’s not good for your scales either. There are so so SO many hidden calories in them. For example, a glass of wine or a pint of beer has around 150 calories in them (!!!) and if you’re having a mixed drink that’s a lot lot more. Research has also shown that alcohol in higher amounts can  contribute to cancers of the breast, esophagus, stomach, and colon. So definitely use judgment and moderation when fitting alcohol into your meal plan.
  • Finally, there is the mixed coffee drinks. I know that this is something that’s so so difficult for me to follow (and will probably be the same for you guys). I love my coffee drinks and my hot chocolates etc from Starbucks and other coffee franchises but Oh My God they’re scary. I will not expand on that because the guilt factor lays on really thick for that one. BUT. I use it as a treat. I won’t have it every single day but if I do, I make sure I have been eating really well.

So that is the end of this healthy diet post. I hope it helped and I hope you liked it. Please tell me what your guilty pleasure drinks are in the comments section below.

So thank you for reading and see you tomorrow.

My Insta-Log and OOTD

So this is just a post to talk about what I’ve been up to lately and some little fashion things I guess. I exhausted my posting ability and energy a little with that SUPER long post yesterday and I’ve been so busy lately, which is weird because this should be “break-time”. So I hope you enjoy this slightly more “personalized” or me-blog (mlog?) and I probably will be doing some of these now and then.

So, here is my instagram log for saturday, sunday, monday and today.

Image

Let me break it down for you:

Photo #1: (Saturday) These are the mint nails I was talking about! They turned up on my iPhone camera slightly more pastel than they are in real life but meh. This photo makes it look so much prettier!

Photo #2: OOTD for Sunday! I was sporting a uber-long tank top from H&M with a tiger on it that I turned into a shortish dress (it was a lovely day) and over that I had on a sweater with a “net-y” or mesh type of feel in a really nice muted gold type of color. Because its autumn right now where I am, I decided to wear my burgundy/wine-red cardigan. (I adore that color combo!) This cardigan is so cute because it has a waterfall shape down the front and a cropped back with a “stitched-in waist”. I love it so much. On my feet (not in this picture), I have on a pair of brown leather boots with a furry-sheep skin type thing on the inside of the bootshaft that can be turned out or left like that. Accessories wise, I had on my really lovely faux-antique (its almost antique now lol. I got it 10 years ago for Christmas!!!) locket with mini mini pearls and rubies and it’s just so delicate and gorgeous, and I also wore my mom’s amber ring and my silver pentacle ring. I personally loved that outfit and quite a few people said I looked nice which made me really happy haha.

Photo #3: (Tuesday) I actually put this in a funny order when I made this, oops. This is a photo I took in Bar Coluzzi in Darlinghurst, Sydney. It was absolutely adorable. I really wanted to write a review on it because I just loved it so much. It’s a really well hidden cafe on Victoria St and once you go in, you can just feel the history. It’s 50 years old and founded by a former Australian middle weight champion (Luigi Coluzzi) and you can just see the wall covered in photos of him, signatures by famous people and it’s just amazing. The staff are extremely friendly and full of humour. I had a steak sandwich and Iced Chocolate which was just DELICIOUS but the downside was it was $18 which is erring of the expensive side. Overall, I think that if you get the chance, you must visit it! It’s so amazing and you might just spot some celebs who are always lurking there.

Photo #4: (Monday) Lemon, Lime and Bitters! Always a treat! Amazing dinner at Terrazza Cafe Restaurant Pizzeria. $45 for 2 people for dinner is quite okay I think. I was stuffed after the drink, the entree and the pizza (which is one of the best pizza’s I’ve had, not including the one I had in Naples, Italy because what can compare to that!). Really great atmosphere and the food is even better. The staff were really nice too so, pretty good experience. I would definitely go back!

Okay so it’s OOTD time!

Because, as I said in my previous post, my camera is currently taking a holiday from working and I’m lacking a mirror to take the photo in, I can just use Polyvore to give you a general idea.

I was wearing a shockingly pink silk blouse today by Zimmermann (which I got on a very LARGE sale percent may I mention) and I honestly rarely wear pink but this blouse just drew my attention immediately. I mean the color is that gorgeous bright flamingo/coral pink. Oh! my god! I love it! But every time I looked down or caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror or a window or something, I would like get a startle, every time. I was like “woah, that’s so pink!” But I enjoyed every minute of wearing it. The fabric is so so comfortable and just amazing quality.

I tucked the front into my Levi’s dark wash skinnys (and left the back out like I seem to always do) to give a slightly less casual look and also because it’s a little long, if I leave it out on the front, it kinda makes me look shorter and isn’t as flattering.

On my feet, I had the Dr Martens that I got for Christmas last year. I’ve never been the biggest fan of “combat boots”. I don’t know, they just never look that great on me because I have tiny feet which I’m uber self conscious about because sometimes I get outrageously rude people who ask me how I “balance” and “manage to stand” on them because proportionally they’re too small for my height. Anyways, not the point! I always think they look strange on me but my mother says they look good on me so whatever, I trust her. I actually have the Triumph 1460 style that I love because of the “biker”-like heritage that seems to come with it.

On top, because it’s autumn here, I have my favourite and best investment of my life, my SABA black leather jacket. I bought this maybe 2 or 3 years ago, and I’ve just gotten SO SO SO much wear out of it. It’s one of the only jackets I wear in autumn and winter. I just adore it. It’s the softest thing in the entire world. (Oh yeah, it’s real leather btw. Yes I know, have a fit if you like. I do guilt trip over it but you know, I try not kill animals for my own benefit *guilty sad face*).  I adore the little epaulets on the shoulders and the across body type, diagonal zipper thing going on. The only annoying thing is that the collar flaps always flap closed when the zipper or buttons aren’t done up (so annoying! 😡 ) If you want an image, just type into Google images Bardot Leather Jacket and it looks basically like the first one even though its SABA.

In my hand, resides my most precious handbag. I love this bag to bits. It is absolutely amazing, beyond words. [Disclaimer] I dreamed about this bag (well, not this particular bag, but similar ones) for the longest time and my dad (who is just the most amazing and hard working man I’ve ever known) and I reached an “agreement” that he’d get me my birthday present a little early because he won’t be here to celebrate with me. And seriously, I appreciate him so much and I know how lucky I am to have him as my father. And I’d love him just as much with or without the stuff he gets me as treats. I never want people to think that I’m rottenly spoilt or ridiculously filthy rich because I’m not. With the money that my dad earns, we just have enough spending “allowance” for my mom and I to be treated to lovely things and I can’t help what some people think, and I’m sorry that they feel that way but you know, I can’t change that. Just please don’t judge me for it. So the actual bag is a Vitello Lux Gather Tote by Miu Miu and I know in this picture, it’s a light beige but in real life, mine is actually a lovely nude pink. It was so funny because I got so so upset when a little bit of rain got on it the other day. It was a moment of utter tragicness I’m not joking. And my friend was totally laughing me.

Anyways, so that brings me to the end of my Insta-log and OOTD. I know this was overly detailed and totally long, I just didn’t want you guys to feel as if I half-assed this post by slacking off and posting 2 pictures and 100 words.

So please please: Like, Comment, Follow

I hope you liked this post and see you tomorrow.

Healthy Diet Tip #1

Hey everybody! So I thought that I might start a “series” of posts (maybe once a week) called Healthy Diet Rules because I’m absolutely passionate about eating healthy, and being healthy, and blah blah blah and I know that there are SO SO SO many people out there who want to be healthier but just don’t know how or just haven’t found anything good. So if you think this is a wonderful idea than please comment below and like this post 🙂 or maybe share it around with your friends because we’re all here to help each other out 🙂

Sometimes I think I’m a little crazy though because I just talk about all these random facts to my friends and they’re just like “i don’t really care, cool story, next topic”. I can honestly talk about food for hours, just on and on and on. Long story short, I ramble! A lot!

Okay, my healthy diet tip NUMERO UNO! is about breakfast. And before you roll your eyes and click away, hear me out. If you eat breakfast every morning, or mornings when you actually wake up early enough to eat breakfast, you are already happily strolling down the happy road to healthiness. But if you don’t, than maybe consider it? Most dieticians and nutritionists say it’s good for your health (which I think it is) and it’s amazing way to start off your metabolism for the day and it’d curb any cravings before lunch or morning tea or whichever.

So: Have a healthy, balanced breakfast. And I’m not going to leave it at that, because what is the point of me sitting here and telling you that you should do something without giving anything to help you?! I am not an amazing chef or food guru but I do know that what I eat everyday for breakfast is healthy, balanced and 100% delicious.

What do I have for breakfast? I have a Mixed Berry Smoothie! It’s so quick and so easy because who can be bothered to get up at 7 am or 7:30 am and sit there making breakfast for half an hour when you’re trying to get ready and leave for school or work or whatever! So here is a short recipe for my smoothie and this usually takes 5-10 minutes but when it’s blending, I just go and wash my face and do my makeup and etc etc etc. So my whole morning routine takes at most 15 minutes before I’m out the door!

MIXED BERRY SMOOTHIE RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

– 2 cups of frozen mixed berried (because we all know how expensive “fresh” fruit is! and honestly, I haven’t read anything that makes frozen berries awful or lacking in nutrition but if you have, PLEASE tell me!)

– 1 banana (maybe use some older ones because you don’t want to “waste” perfectly good bananas!)

– 1 cup of natural low fat yoghurt (I like to get the organic ones because I know they’re not overly processed)

– 1/2 cup of milk

– 1 teaspoon of flaxseed oil (really good for you)

– 1 cup of rolled oats/museli/whichever bran you like

– and some honey if needed

Note: This serves more than 1 person so maybe fiddle with the numbers to get the quantity you like.

I guess there’s not much “method” I can give you other than chuck them all in your brender, pour it into your container to go on the way to school/work or have at home, and that is your breakfast done!

And you’ve gotten all the amazing things you could POSSIBLY need to start your day. You’ve got your Omega 3, your probiotics, your fibre, your protein and your antioxidants ALL in your breakfast (one meal!!!) in around 250 calories (for those who count) and this will last you all morning! Pretty good eh?
