Mini-Haul/Review!

Hey guys. Long time no see but I’m back!!! And hopefully I can get my blogging back on track but I’ve just gotten so bogged down with work and procrastinating but here’s a mini-haul/review from me!

NARS Lip-Gloss in “Sweet Revenge”

Image

I absolutely adore this lip gloss that I picked up the other day. I’m completely a lipstick girl because I hate that sticky feeling you get when you wear lipgloss but I don’t have that problem with NARS lip-glosses at all and this is just such a natural-looking flattering color. I love it!

JUST LOOK AT THAT COLOR!

NARS Blush in “Super Orgasm”

Image

I picked up this blush last month and I’ve been wearing it EVERY time I decide to wear makeup and I just adore it. It complements my skintone so well. Definitely my favorite blush ever!

Essie Nail Polish in…

Image

These are the first Essie nail polishes I’ve acquired but I can already say that I love them. They have really good formulation and they don’t streak! The brush size is just right. I love them!

“Not Just a Pretty Face”

I have this on right now and I’ll have to say I adore this color!

“Mint Candy Apple”

So that is all for my haul. I hope you liked it.

On the Radio

People nowadays may not listen to the radio anymore…

I listen to Nova969 whenever I'm in the car! Haha. And sometimes, when I need to study for french, I listen to french radio.

Oh? You’re not perfect? But… How? You look it.

How to fake the PERFECT facial structure.

1. Bronzer- Choose a bronzer that is darker than your actual color. Use your brush to draw a 3 on the right side of your face, and a backwards 3 on the left side. Start at the top of the forehead by the hairline, move down to the cheek, in toward the nose, and down just above the chin. You want to focus on the “hollows of your cheek” to make it look like you have high cheekbones. Make sure you blend out because you do NOT want to have the most obvious dark line on your face!!!

2. Highlighter- Highlighters are meant to draw attention to areas that light would naturally hit your face. You want to dab some highlighter below your eye brow arch, just above the apple of your cheek, and down the center of your nose.

3. Blush- Smile, and use a brush to dab blush onto the apple of your cheek, and apply upward toward the hairline. This will make you cheeks stand out against the contouring of the bronzer and the highlighter, giving the allusion of perfection.

Nine Ways to Drink More Water!!!

I think you may remember that a few weeks ago about how I do not drink enough water and some really simple advice on how to do it. But this is the extended version:

1) Determine how much you need to drink: 1 liquid ounce for every 2 pounds that you weight.

2) Measure your intake of water and if it is consistently less than the required amount, follow the following steps.

3) Try having something that alerts you at the beginning of each hour. Use that as a reminder to pour yourself a cup of water. Then vow to yourself that you will finish that water before the next hour.

4) Add something to your water that will make it taste better to you: strawberries, limes, lemons etc. In winter, consider having warm water with lemons as this will keep you warm and detox.

5) Eat water-rich foods like watermelon (which is 92% water by weight)! Cranberries and tomatoes are other great water-rich foods.

6) Purchase a bottle the size of your water goal that you determined in step 1 and carry it around with you.

7) Drink just water for a week and it will get easier and easier to improve your water intake.

HAULER: Bumble and Bumble… Bee?

HEY GUYS! Haha. Today, I went out shopping because it’s thursday and we, Australians, all know what that means: late night shopping. So I went out and grabbed some stuff.

Mainly because I’ve been pretty much cooped up at home for like the past 2 months, I’ve completely used up ALL my LUSH hair care products so I figured it was about time I went out and bought something new and even though I’m still a LUSHmaniac (don’t worry), I like myself some new products so here is what I got from Bumble and Bumble. Hang out for some reviews coming up over the next few weeks!!!

Aveda Salon Experience

Hey guys!! I’m not dead. I’m so sorry about the hiatus but I just got really really busy with the pile of work that I had to do and I was just really tired all the time and I decided that I needed a time off from my everyday hobby of blogging. But I am back now with a post!!! Haha. So today, I finally went to get my bangs done at the Aveda Salon (Luc Espace at Chatswood Chase in Sydney) and here’s how I felt about it.

Image

I walked in and was immediately impressed with the layout and decor of the salon. With the warm colors and the wood furnishing (and scent), I could definitely feel the signature natural sensory vibe that Aveda carries. Not to mention the service! I was immediately greeted by their signature tea, water and magazines. My stylist, Lisa, came up to me with in a few seconds and we talked about how I wanted my hair, and immediately she understood. I was definitely impressed by how she then stepped me through the steps of cutting my hair (exactly how much she would take off and where and walked me through how she’d cut my bangs).

Image

I was then directed my a young man to the basins. Along the way he asked if I’d like a neck and shoulder massage, complimentary with every visit, and of course I said yes. He asked me to take 3 deep breaths, smelling in the natural essence he was holding and close my eyes. I’d definitely say that it was a relaxing experience. He then did his little massage and off we went with the hair wash. Of course, he only used Aveda products which I was really happy about because I know their mantras and mottos and I was delighted to try their products (amazing, my hair feels so soft and smooth). The only thing I hate about salons sometimes is the amount of products with harmful chemicals in them that they use, products that I would never ever use myself because of my love for natural products.

Image

So, away from the basin we went, and he combed my hair. AND THANK THE LORD he knows how to comb hair. He didn’t rip out my whole head like every other salon I’ve been to did. And then we go to the haircut. She snipped away, reminding me first to uncross my legs to maintain balance in the haircut (something that hairdressers never did before but I was thankful and delighted that she did). And can I say, when I said an inch (ONE inch) she ACTUALLY just cut off ONE ince, no more!!! That seriously impressed me. But the thing that put the icing on the cake was that she waited til the end to cut my fringe, to make sure I hadn’t changed my mind.

This whole package I was thoroughly pleased with. I’m surprised, and delighted, to say that I can not think of ONE bad thing to say about my experience, which is definitely a first. However, I will tell you that although my fringe looks good, it feels hella strange.

Guest Post: Adding A Pinch of Glamor To Your Life

Hey guys. I know I’ve been a little lost to the world over the past 4 days (I’m sorry! Ahhh!) But I basically finally had a day off to just chill out and not think about work, and all these days of stressful exam preparations that I just didn’t get time. Fear not, however, because today we have a very special post.

Image

Today, we have a guest post from the lucky Jackie from the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance and she’s here to talk about something that moves me deeply. Sadly, unfortunately, some of us at some point may hear, or may have heard, the devastating sentence “you have cancer”. Us women often already struggle with feeling comfortable and beautiful in our own skin. But that should not hinder us from being confident and beautiful. So when Jackie contacted me about making this post, I was delighted and jumped at the thought of such a wonderful idea. So here it is:

Adding A Pinch Of Glamor To Your Life

Image

Women who are undergoing treatment after a cancer diagnosis know all too well that it can be difficult to feel beautiful or glamorous. With trips to chemotherapy clinics or mesothelioma doctors, it can be hard to take time to tend to your appearance or complete those little beauty rituals. However manicures and pedicures are a simple way to add a touch of elegance to your daily life. Keeping your fingers and toenails looking beautiful can be a real confidence booster and give you an extra reason to smile when you look down at your hands or feet. Here are some tips on maintaining confidence through manis and pedis.

Salon vs. Home

Image

The simplest way to maintain your manicure is obviously to visit a salon and leave the work to a professional. However, this can get expensive. Maintain your manicure or pedicure at home with just a few tools. For a basic manicure, invest in a bottle of polish remover, a nail file, a pair of clippers, and one or two polishes that you really love. Top and base coat polishes and cuticle-trimming tools may be helpful, but are not absolutely essential.

Selecting Colors

Image

There are obviously a wide array of nail colors to choose from. If you are currently undergoing cancer treatment, you probably do not have the time or energy for a high-maintenance manicure. Hence, avoid metallic or glittery nail polishes, as they can be difficult to remove and maintain. You may want to select a pale color or neutral French manicure as these colors require the least maintenance.

Minimize Chemicals

Image

Cutting down on the exposure to toxic chemicals during treatment is a good idea. You can minimize your chemical exposure by using natural nail products. The main thing to remember is to invest in an acetone-free nail polish remover. Removing nail polish with an acetone-free remover may take a little longer, but is much safer and healthier in the long run.
Image

Some cancer patients may see their nails as the last things that they ought to be worrying about while undergoing treatment. However, a manicure can be a lovely diversion from the stresses of having cancer. It can even make you feel more confident and beautiful on a daily basis. Don’t feel bad about taking an hour or so a week to treat yourself; enjoy the opportunity to boost your confidence and happiness with this fun beauty ritual.

Again thank you Jackie for guest posting on my blog. If you would like to guest post, feel free to email me at the email in the information bar on the right hand side.

Advice That I Never Take

You know how they say “drink water”. Yeah, well, I’m not very good at that at all. I drink no water, pretty much. It’s awful. I don’t even know how to motivate myself to drink water. I really don’t. Sigh. I’ll be working on this.

Image

8 Reasons to Drink Water:

  1. Weight loss
  2. Healthy heart
  3. More energy
  4. Headache cure
  5. Healthy skin
  6. Helps fix digestive problems
  7. Cleansing
  8. Better exercise results

The Advice: Drink half your weight (lb) in liquid ounces.

i.e. if you weight 120 lb, drink 60 ounces of water. 🙂

How to Follow This Advice:

  • Set a water routine: one cup when you wake up, one cup with each meal, one cup in between all meals, one cup before bed [if you’re exercising, one cup before exercise and one cup after]: note that you should divide ounces by how many times you’ll drink to figure out your cup [doesn’t have to be exact at all though!]
  • Carry a bottle around with you! Best reminder right?
  • Set yourself reminders either on your phone or on your computer.

I will be reporting back on this mission.

What is a piece of advice that you never follow? Tell me below.
